Teaching Materials for Advanced Liberal Arts Courses

Teaching Materials for Advanced Liberal Arts Courses

Using the various research objective-specific multilingual corpora developed by our COE, we provide cutting-edge teaching materials for liberal arts courses related to linguistic and cultural research. Multilingual research objective-specific corpora that put online language resources to practical use are unprecedented in the world.

We have also created a corpus on discussions regarding various cultures from around the world and development of teaching materials for cultural research is currently under way.

Linguistics

From the very beginning at our COE, we have not only carried out individual linguistic research, but have also emphasized cross-linguistic and general linguistic perspectives. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) uses common standards to describe the pronunciation of all world languages. The IPA Module was developed so that it could be used to teach the IPA to students as well as be employed in phonetics and phonology courses. In addition, by using the individually developed grammar modules for each of the languages as corpora, the Cross-Linguistic Grammar Module makes it possible to study the grammar of Asian and European languages from a cross-linguistic perspective. This module can also be used for linguistics courses (in particular, contrastive linguistics and typology).
